In this paper are presented the roman (and some post roman) figural bronzes of the National Museum of Este (Italy).
The funerary contexts of the Roman period with figural bronzes, almost 80 found up to now, have sometimes dating elements useful for the chronology of the statuettes, although many of them – belonging to the middle and late imperial age – are not significant from this point of view, because of the amplitude of the possible period of statuettes’ production. Therefore, this article, in which are proposed summary tables of evidences (male, female, indeterminate figurines, and animals), focuses attention on the specimens from the oldest contexts, only a few of which, however, belong to identified series. Key words: roman bronze statuettes, graves, chronology
Three Roman bronze statuettes - two Minervas and one Mercurius - from Montecchio Maggiore and Isola Vicentina are considered. As for the two Minervas, the “Verona-Parma” type has been re-examined and its distribution list has been updated. The three bronze statuettes have been finally related to the Roman bronze production of Vicenza and neighbouring areas.
This paper takes into account, for the regions of northern Italy (Aemilia excluded), bronze and lead figural objects of small and medium size, found presumably in places of worship of Roman imperial period, and some stone votive inscriptions perhaps in connection with metal figurines, now lost. The aim is to outline the presence or absence of bronzes in shrines (and in some public but not religious buildings) and deduce possible indications. The investigation is therefore limited to one aspect of the ritual and can not lead by itself to the knowledge of religions arising from the integration of all sources; also the collected data are certainly incomplete, because of the vastness of the considered area and the dispersion of the bibliography. Some remarkable complex of bronzes with accurate catalogues are particularly rich in information.

Espressioni di artigianato italico a Crotone: un bronzetto armato dallo scavo del nuovo teatro comunaleThis paper discusses an armed bronze figurine that stands out among the finds recovered during the excavations for the construction of the new municipal theatre of Crotone. The archaeological context does not provide any reliable dating information, but the surviving elements of its military gear, its style and its manufacturing technique suggest that the figurine should be attributed to the Italic bronze productions of Magna Graecia and especially of Crotone.
